Compliance in the Wild

In July 2026 we scanned 912 live sites running the four most common consent tools, from EU and US vantage points, including 244 sites running Ketch. Across the Ketch cohort, 91% fired a genuine third-party request before the visitor answered the banner, and 92% of those with a conclusive verdict did not pass our EU consent test.

Read those numbers the way the study intends. All four tools cluster: the widest gap between any of them on either measure is not statistically significant. So this describes how consent tools get deployed in the wild, not a defect in any one product. Our scanner observes network requests and their timing against the consent fence. It does not read script order or configuration, so it cannot tell you whether a given result comes from the tool or from the way that site was set up, and the study does not guess. We publish no per-tool post-reject figure for the same reason.

Cohort: render-verified installs drawn from our ICP-matched, English-language sales-lead batches. Not a random sample of any tool's install base, and enterprise deployments are excluded by design. 951 scans fired, 912 complete, 891 with a conclusive EU verdict. Performance

ConsentStack ships ~46 KB total: stub plus core with zero external dependencies.

We measured Ketch's payload ourselves. Across 193 live Ketch sites, every one loaded the same version-pinned bundle, and the full payload a visitor downloads averaged 393 KB gzipped (median 393 KB, range 389 KB to 418 KB). Ketch ships one shared bundle rather than a per-site build, so that figure barely moves from customer to customer. Against our own SDK on the same measure, that is roughly eight times the bytes.

A smaller bundle means less to download before your banner can render and less contention with the rest of your page.

Method: for each site we fetched the homepage, read the Ketch loader's embedded config, and summed the over-the-wire gzip size of boot.js plus every file its script list tells the browser to load unconditionally. Static fetch, no JavaScript execution, so it undercounts sites where Ketch is injected by client-side script. 193 of 291 sites sampled returned a detectable loader; the remaining 98 are a fetch blind spot, not evidence of absence. Measured September 2026 against Ketch Smart Tag v2.12 and ConsentStack SDK v0.25.0.

When to Choose Ketch

ConsentStack is focused on doing website consent management exceptionally well. Some capabilities are still on our roadmap.

IAB TCF v2.2 and GPP

ConsentStack does not yet support TCF or GPP. If your use case requires TCF compliance for EU programmatic advertising, Ketch supports this today.

DSR Automation

Data subject request workflows are not yet available in ConsentStack. Ketch offers a full DSR workflow builder.

Mobile SDKs

Native iOS, Android, and React Native SDKs are not yet available. ConsentStack is currently web-focused.
