Can You Trust a Free Cookie Scanner?
We ran 11 free cookie scanners against a test site built to leak and against our own site, ran every one twice, and logged where they scan from. Then we turned our own scanner on the 12 CMP vendors' websites. Three changed their answer within the hour, none disclosed their scan location, and none caught the tracker that kept firing after Reject.

We scanned 912 live sites running the four most common consent tools (Cookiebot, OneTrust, Ketch, CookieYes), as configured. Across all four, 91% fired a tracker before the visitor answered the banner, and 24% of the sites where Reject was clickable kept one firing afterward. Installing a tool is not the same as being compliant.
