Snapshot
ConsentStack is a modern alternative to Complianz for website consent management. More regulations, more platforms, and consent management that works beyond WordPress.
Pricing
Complianz is one of the most affordable consent options for WordPress. EUR 59/year for a single site with all plugin features. ConsentStack Pro is $29/month. The price difference is real. What matters is what each price buys.

WordPress plugin pricing vs. platform pricing
Complianz is cheaper because it's a different category of product. A WordPress plugin that stores data locally, requires no cloud infrastructure, and works only within WordPress can be priced like a WordPress plugin. ConsentStack runs edge infrastructure, maintains a regulation database, provides real-time analytics, and works on any site. Different product, different economics. If all your sites are WordPress and will stay that way, Complianz's pricing is hard to beat.
The cliff and the ceiling
Complianz's tier structure creates a cliff at 6 sites: jumping from Professional (EUR 179/year for 5 sites) to Agency (EUR 399/year for 25 sites) more than doubles the annual cost for one additional site. And even at the Agency tier, you're still limited to WordPress. ConsentStack bills per site with no cliff. Each site is on its own plan.
What “free” means now
Complianz's free WordPress tier has been progressively limited. Multiple reviewers report that basic EU cookies compliance is no longer included on the free version. Google Consent Mode v2 appears greyed out. ConsentStack's free tier includes geo-detection and all 195+ regulations, capped at 1,000 visitors.
“The free version doesn't include the basic EU cookies compliance anymore.”
Complianz user, Trustpilot reviewer“I was a bit fed up with their pricing schemes and pricing increase over time.”

Platform
Complianz works inside WordPress. It's excellent there: 1+ million installations, 4.8/5 rating, 250+ plugin integrations. But consent management needs to work everywhere your sites do. A React app, a Shopify store (partially covered), a Webflow landing page, a headless build: Complianz can't follow you. ConsentStack is a single script tag on any site.
One platform for all your properties
Complianz's own homepage says “The only Privacy Suite for WordPress & Shopify.” No script-tag implementation for arbitrary websites. No support for React, Next.js, Vue, Angular, or any SPA framework. No support for Wix, Squarespace, Webflow. ConsentStack works on WordPress, Shopify, React, Next.js, Vue, Webflow, Squarespace, Wix, static HTML, or any custom-built site. One dashboard manages all your properties.
25 sites, 25 installations
Each WordPress install runs its own Complianz instance. An agency managing 25 WordPress sites has 25 separate installations to maintain, update, and configure. No shared dashboard, no cross-site configuration, no portfolio-level analytics. Configuration changes (like updating banner text or adding a regulation) must be replicated manually across each installation. ConsentStack manages multiple sites from a single dashboard with centralized configuration.
“I tried using their shortcodes with the shortcode element, but it didn't render the content and I read in the docs they say just to use Gutenberg.”
Bricks Builder user, RedditConsentStack isn't locked to any CMS, any page builder, or any framework. One script tag, one dashboard, every site.
Compliance
Enable Global Compliance Mode (one toggle) and 195+ privacy regulations across 157+ jurisdictions apply automatically. No region configuration, no jurisdiction research, no manual rule mapping. A visitor from Germany gets GDPR treatment, a visitor from California gets CCPA/CPRA, a visitor from Virginia gets VCDPA. All from a single setting, on every tier including free.
Complianz uses a configuration wizard where the site owner selects which regions they serve and which laws apply. The wizard is well-designed and makes the process manageable, but it requires you to know which laws apply to your visitors. Complianz covers roughly 15-20 regulations. A March 2026 update added 6 US state laws (Tennessee, Minnesota, Maryland, Indiana, Kentucky, Rhode Island), bringing the total US state coverage to approximately 8-10. ConsentStack covers all 20 enacted US state privacy laws with automatic per-state resolution via a single toggle.
Complianz does not appear to cover most of Asia-Pacific (Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines), most of the Middle East and North Africa, or most of Sub-Saharan Africa. If your site receives traffic from these regions, the wizard has no options to select. ConsentStack covers 157+ jurisdictions across every inhabited continent.
Customization
Complianz configures consent through the WordPress admin panel. ConsentStack gives you a design system. The difference matters when your banner needs to match a brand, not just approximate one.
Full control over banner text
ConsentStack lets you edit every line of banner copy, including per-consent-model overrides so GDPR visitors see different messaging than CCPA visitors. Complianz generates banner text through a wizard with limited editing. Customization beyond the wizard defaults requires overriding templates or filters in PHP.
Visual builder, not a settings page
ConsentStack's visual builder offers 12 color tokens, 5 banner layouts, 4 preferences center layouts, and live preview. Complianz offers basic color and position controls within the WordPress admin. No layout options, no live preview outside WordPress, and no way to preview how the banner looks on non-WordPress properties.
CSS, JS, and headless mode when you need them
When the visual builder isn't enough, ConsentStack Pro includes custom CSS/JS injection and headless mode for fully custom UIs. Complianz supports custom CSS via WordPress hooks but offers no JavaScript injection, no headless mode, and no way to build your own consent experience on top of their system.
Consent management that works everywhere.
195+ regulations, any website, one dashboard. No WordPress required.
For Developers
SDK vs. WordPress hooks
Complianz provides JavaScript event hooks (cmplz_has_consent, cmplz_get_banner_status) and WordPress PHP hooks/filters. No REST API, no headless mode, no programmatic configuration. ConsentStack provides a full JavaScript API: getConsent, setConsent, hasConsent, onConsentChange, showBanner, showPreferences, on/off event listeners, a command queue for pre-load calls, and headless mode on Pro for fully custom consent UIs.
Any stack, one script
ConsentStack's SDK is a single 23KB gzipped file with no external dependencies. Add a <script> tag to any website. No WordPress required, no PHP hooks, no admin panel. The same SDK works on React, Next.js, Vue, Shopify, static HTML, or any platform that renders HTML. Complianz has no way to integrate with non-WordPress/Shopify sites. A developer building a headless Next.js app, a Vue SPA, or a Webflow marketing site has no Complianz integration path.
“Consent isn't working at all, and it has now added some country regions that are blocked by default from sending traffic data to GA4.”
Complianz user, RedditWhen to Choose Complianz
Complianz has earned its 1+ million WordPress installations and 4.8/5 rating. It's a well-made product for WordPress sites. Here's when it's the right choice.
Your entire web presence is WordPress and will stay that way.
Complianz is built natively for WordPress. It hooks into WordPress's script loading, integrates with 250+ WordPress plugins automatically, and feels like a natural part of the WordPress admin experience. If all your sites are WordPress and you value that native integration, Complianz delivers it at a price that's hard to beat.
Auto-generated legal documents save you meaningful time.
Complianz generates cookie policies, privacy statements, DPAs, and impressum documents via a wizard, maintained by an IT law firm, in 47+ languages. ConsentStack does not generate legal documents. If you need a starting-point privacy policy and will have a lawyer review it, Complianz's document generation is a genuine time-saver.
You need IAB TCF certification for programmatic advertising.
Complianz is IAB TCF 2.0+/2.3 certified and a Google-certified CMP. ConsentStack does not currently support TCF. For sites running EU programmatic ad inventory where TCF compliance is required by ad networks, Complianz has the certification.
You want consent data stored on your own server.
Complianz stores all consent records in the WordPress database. No data leaves your server. For privacy-conscious site owners who want to avoid third-party data processors in the consent flow, this self-hosted model is a meaningful architectural advantage.
Complianz is genuinely good for WordPress-only sites. The gaps appear when your needs extend beyond WordPress, beyond a handful of regulations, or beyond what a plugin architecture can provide. For everything else on this page, ConsentStack delivers more for less.
FAQ
ConsentStack covers 195+ privacy regulations with automatic geo-detection on every tier. It works on any website via a single script tag, not just WordPress. For sites that have outgrown a WordPress plugin or need consent management across multiple platforms, ConsentStack provides the coverage and flexibility Complianz can't.
Complianz is cheaper per site: EUR 59/year (~$5/mo) for one WordPress site with all features. ConsentStack Pro is $29/mo per site. The difference is product category: Complianz is a WordPress plugin; ConsentStack is a platform that works on any website, includes analytics, a developer API, headless mode, and 195+ regulations with automatic enforcement. If you have non-WordPress properties, ConsentStack replaces the need for multiple tools.
No. ConsentStack does not generate legal documents. It provides consent infrastructure: banners, script blocking, geo-detection, consent logging, and platform integrations. You link your own privacy policy, cookie policy, and other legal documents via the document links feature. Complianz's document generation is a genuine differentiator. The tradeoff is that auto-generated documents may create false confidence without legal review, while separately authored documents are explicitly yours to maintain and verify.
Yes. Add a single script tag to your site, configure your banner in the visual builder, and publish. The SDK handles geo-detection, script blocking, and consent logging automatically. Complianz consent records don't transfer (no CMP supports cross-platform consent migration), but new consent is collected from the first pageview. If you're on WordPress, you can remove the Complianz plugin after verifying ConsentStack is working.
Yes. ConsentStack's Global Compliance Mode covers all 20 enacted US state privacy laws with automatic per-state resolution. A visitor from California gets CCPA/CPRA treatment; a visitor from Virginia gets VCDPA; a visitor from Texas gets TDPSA. All automatic, from a single toggle. Complianz added 6 US state laws in March 2026 but does not appear to cover all 20.
Yes. ConsentStack works on any website via a single script tag. WordPress, Shopify, React, Next.js, Vue, Webflow, Squarespace, Wix, static HTML, or any custom-built site. One dashboard manages all your properties. Complianz requires WordPress or Shopify; there is no standalone product for other platforms.
If your site runs programmatic advertising in the EU and your ad networks require TCF compliance, yes. Complianz is IAB TCF 2.0+/2.3 certified. ConsentStack does not currently support TCF. For sites that don't run programmatic ads (or whose ad networks don't require TCF), this difference doesn't affect your compliance posture. ConsentStack supports Google Consent Mode v2, GPC, and native consent signaling to Meta, TikTok, Microsoft, Pinterest, and LinkedIn.
