ConsentStack is a modern alternative to Cookiebot for website consent management. Broader coverage, transparent pricing, and a faster script.

Pricing

One medium-traffic site is the decision point most Cookiebot users face. Here's what you get.

  • 30,000 visitors/mo
  • 2 domains included
  • Cookie scanning included
  • Customize every detail
  • Analytics with country breakdown
  • 195+ regulations
  • Custom CSS/JS
  • Headless mode + full API
Cookiebot Premium Medium
~$34/mo
  • Up to 3,500 subpages (not visitors)
  • 1 domain only
  • Monthly scanning (daily = +~$115/mo)
  • 2 color presets + CSS overrides
  • Basic analytics (1 graph, no filtering)
  • ~10 documented regulations
  • Custom HTML/CSS/JS on Premium only

Even the free tiers tell the story. Cookiebot Free covers 50 subpages, 1 domain, and compliance with a single regulation. ConsentStack Free covers 1,000 visitors, 195+ regulations with full geo-detection and script blocking. The compliance engine works the same on free as it does on paid.

Visitors, not pages

Cookiebot prices by scanner-detected page count, and users can't verify or dispute the count. One reviewer was charged for 5,000+ pages on a site they say doesn't have that many. The scanner counts search result pages, paginated archives, and parameter-based URLs as separate subpages. ConsentStack prices by monthly unique visitors, a number you already track in your analytics. If you approach your limit, you're notified at 80% and auto-upgraded on the next billing cycle. No compliance gap, no mystery invoice.

Growth doesn't cost extra per domain

Cookiebot charges the full subscription price per domain. Subdomains count separately. No volume discounts. Ten medium sites costs ~$340/month. ConsentStack Pro includes 2 domains per site. Extra domains are $5/month each.

What happened in August 2025

Cookiebot doubled its base Premium pricing and automatically migrated accounts with fewer than 4 domains to a more expensive tier. Customers described the communication as poor and the change as disrespectful. ConsentStack's pricing is published, self-serve, and has never changed without advance notice.

Experience

Cookiebot installs in 5 minutes. That part is genuinely easy. What comes after is harder. The banner customization offers two color presets and basic text editing. Anything beyond that requires CSS overrides or a custom HTML/CSS/JS template, available only on Premium. The admin dashboard is described by its own users as “clunky and annoying to navigate.” And the reporting gives you a single time-series chart with no way to filter by country or device.

“Front-end branding and visual control are extremely limited... You're stuck with very few options for how the popup presents.”

Garrett Genest, Marketing Manager — TrustRadius

ConsentStack's visual builder offers 12 color tokens, 5 banner layouts, 4 preferences center layouts, and full content editing on every tier. Pro adds custom CSS, custom JavaScript, and headless mode for complete control. One dashboard, no hunting for settings.

One product, one brand

Cookiebot is now branded “Cookiebot CMP by Usercentrics.” New signups are redirected to Usercentrics Web CMP, a different platform. Existing customers need a support article to figure out which account they have. The WordPress plugin has been renamed multiple times, and one user reported losing all settings after temporarily deactivating it. ConsentStack is a single product with a single brand. What you sign up for is what you use.

Coverage

One toggle in the dashboard enables Global Compliance Mode. That single setting covers 195+ privacy regulations across 157+ jurisdictions, with automatic per-visitor resolution at the CDN edge. No region configuration, no manual rule mapping, no jurisdiction research. A visitor from Germany gets GDPR treatment. A visitor from California gets CCPA/CPRA. A visitor from Virginia gets VCDPA. All automatic, all from one toggle. When new laws take effect, they're added to the database and apply automatically. The site owner does nothing.

Cookiebot requires you to do the compliance homework. Its free tier covers a single regulation. Add a second jurisdiction and you're setting up “Multiple Configurations” with data-georegions attributes, choosing which laws apply to which visitors, and hoping you haven't missed a jurisdiction. Cookiebot documents support for approximately 10 regulations. Coverage across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East, and Sub-Saharan Africa is not documented.

ConsentStack covers all 20 US state privacy laws with a single toggle. Cookiebot documents support for roughly 6. The gap matters because a visitor from Texas, Nebraska, or Maryland needs different consent treatment than a visitor from California, and getting it wrong means non-compliance in that state.

Performance

Cookiebot's consent script blocks your page from rendering until it finishes loading. An independent benchmark ranked it 9th out of 11 consent tools tested. On pages with Google ads, one reviewer noted their Interaction to Next Paint scores “deteriorated considerably.” ConsentStack loads in the background without blocking your page. The banner appears in roughly 50 milliseconds.

A slower banner means more visitors interact with your site before consent is collected. That creates both a compliance risk and a performance penalty in search rankings. ConsentStack's SDK is a single 23KB file with no external dependencies. Cookiebot loads 34KB of synchronous code and injects 209 DOM elements.

When to Choose Cookiebot

Cookiebot has real strengths that ConsentStack cannot match today. If any of these matter to your use case, you should know about them.

Cookie scanning and declarations

Cookiebot's automated crawler discovers every cookie on your site and generates a publishable cookie declaration page with descriptions from a 13,000+ cookie repository. ConsentStack blocks scripts in real-time using a known tracker domains library but does not crawl your site or generate cookie declarations. If your compliance workflow requires a published cookie inventory, Cookiebot handles this out of the box.

IAB TCF v2.2

Cookiebot is a certified IAB TCF CMP (ID 134) with Google Gold Tier certification. If you run programmatic advertising in the EU and need TCF compliance, Cookiebot supports this today. ConsentStack does not.

60+ language support

ConsentStack supports 7 languages with auto-translation. Cookiebot supports over 60. If your audience reads your site in a language ConsentStack doesn't cover, Cookiebot has a clear advantage.

WordPress plugin ecosystem

Cookiebot has 100,000+ active WordPress installs with dedicated addons for WooCommerce, WP Rocket, Jetpack, and more. ConsentStack uses a universal script tag that works everywhere, including WordPress, but doesn't have platform-specific plugins with deep integration.

Cookiebot has been serving websites since 2012 and has a genuine track record at scale. For organizations that need cookie scanning, TCF, or broad language support today, it remains a legitimate choice. For website consent management where pricing transparency, user experience, global coverage, and performance matter most, ConsentStack is the stronger option.
