Overview

AddToAny is a universal social sharing widget that adds share buttons for dozens of platforms to website pages. Publishers and bloggers use it to encourage content sharing across social media, email, and messaging apps.

What This Script Does

The AddToAny script injects a floating or inline share bar with buttons for platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, and email. When a visitor clicks a share button, it opens the relevant platform's sharing interface. The script logs share events—which content was shared and to which platform—and sends this data to AddToAny's analytics. It sets session cookies and may load third-party resources from social platforms when the share bar renders.

AddToAny provides a user-initiated sharing function. However, the analytics tracking of share events and the potential loading of third-party social media resources add data collection beyond the core function. Under GDPR, if AddToAny loads social platform scripts that set cookies before user interaction, consent is required. Under ePrivacy, the session cookies and third-party resource loading require consent unless strictly necessary. Under CCPA, the share analytics may constitute data collection subject to disclosure.

Should You Block This Without Consent?

Conditional. If configured to load social platform resources only on click (lazy loading), the share buttons themselves can load without consent. If the script loads third-party social SDKs on page load or tracks shares for analytics, block until functional consent is granted.
