What This Script Does

Meltwater's website integrations load from *.meltwater.com subdomains and render embedded content components.

Content widgets:

• Newsroom widgets displaying curated press coverage and media mentions
• Social media feed aggregators pulling content from Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram
• Press release distribution pages with embedded media assets
• Media monitoring dashboards showing sentiment analysis and coverage metrics

Functionality:

• Fetches and renders third-party media content within the host page
• Supports filtering and search within embedded news feeds
• Loads social media embeds from their respective platforms (which may set their own cookies)
• Tracks content engagement metrics (clicks, views, shares on embedded content)

Cookies set:

• Session cookies for widget state and content filtering preferences
• Engagement tracking cookies measuring interaction with embedded content
• Third-party cookies from embedded social media content (governed by those platforms' policies)
• No persistent visitor identification cookies for marketing purposes

Data collected:

Consent & Compliance

Meltwater falls under the functional consent category. Under GDPR, the content display widgets serve an informational purpose — showing press coverage and social media content on newsroom pages. The session cookies for widget state are functional. However, the embedded social media content within Meltwater widgets may trigger third-party cookie placement from those social platforms, which would require separate consent.

The engagement tracking on widget interactions is for internal communications reporting rather than marketing profiling, though it should be disclosed in the privacy policy.

Should You Block This Without Consent?
