Overview

Framer is a website design and hosting platform that combines visual design tools with production-grade hosting infrastructure. Sites built and deployed on Framer run on Framer's CDN and runtime, meaning the platform's scripts are deeply integrated into the page delivery itself. Framer also includes a built-in analytics product (Framer Analytics) that tracks page views, unique visitors, and traffic sources. This dual role — essential hosting infrastructure plus optional analytics — means Framer straddles two consent categories depending on which features are active.

What This Script Does

Framer's scripts load automatically on any site hosted on the Framer platform.

Hosting and rendering (essential):

• CDN-delivered runtime scripts from framerusercontent.com and framer.com subdomains
• Client-side rendering engine for Framer's component system and animations
• Asset delivery (images, fonts, media) through Framer's CDN
• Route handling and page transition logic

Framer Analytics (analytics):

• Tracks page views, unique visitors, and session duration
• Records traffic source and referral data
• Collects geographic information derived from IP addresses
• Measures site performance metrics

Cookies set:

• Session cookies for maintaining site state (navigation, component state)
• __framer_uid or similar visitor identification cookies for Framer Analytics to distinguish unique visitors
• Performance measurement cookies for tracking load times and interaction metrics

Data collected by analytics:

• Page URL and navigation path
• Visitor count (unique vs. returning)
• Traffic source (direct, referral, search, social)
• Device type, browser, and screen resolution
• Geographic region (IP-derived)

Site owners can disable Framer Analytics in their project settings. When disabled, the analytics-specific cookies and data collection are not activated, leaving only the essential hosting scripts.

Consent & Compliance

Framer spans both essential and analytics consent categories. Under GDPR, the hosting and rendering scripts are strictly necessary for delivering the website — they are the website. These do not require consent. The Framer Analytics component, however, sets persistent visitor identification cookies and collects behavioral data for analytics purposes, which requires consent under the ePrivacy Directive.

Under CCPA/CPRA, the analytics data collection (visitor geography, traffic sources, browsing patterns) should be disclosed in the privacy policy.

Should You Block This Without Consent?

Conditional. The hosting and rendering scripts cannot be blocked — they are the site itself. Framer Analytics, if enabled, sets persistent visitor identification cookies and collects analytics data that requires consent under GDPR. If you use Framer Analytics, configure it to load only after consent is granted. If analytics are disabled in Framer settings, no consent is needed for the remaining essential hosting scripts.
