Overview

SundaySky is a video personalisation platform that generates individualised video experiences at scale for enterprise customer communications. Founded in 2007 and headquartered in New York, SundaySky is used by financial services, insurance, telecommunications, and retail companies to deliver account-specific videos for onboarding, billing explanations, loyalty rewards, and retention campaigns. Unlike static video hosting, SundaySky assembles video segments dynamically using customer account data — meaning each viewer receives a video personalised with their name, account balance, usage data, or specific product details.

What This Script Does

SundaySky scripts load from sundaysky.com CDN endpoints and render a video player that assembles personalised content from pre-produced video segments. The script fetches viewer-specific data from the host organisation's data layer (passed via JavaScript variables or a secure token) and constructs a personalised video sequence in real time.

Cookies and tokens:

• ssky_session — Session token set to associate the video viewing session with the account profile; scoped to the host domain or sundaysky.com iframe; expires at session end.
• ssky_vid — Viewer identifier cookie linking engagement events to an account identifier; typical expiry 90 days; used to track video completion rates per account.
• ssky_play — Playback progress cookie recording the last timestamp reached; enables resume functionality; expiry 30 days.

Script filenames and CDN: player.js and personalizer.js loaded from cdn.sundaysky.com. Video segments are fetched from assets.sundaysky.com or customer-specific S3-backed delivery domains. Analytics events are streamed to events.sundaysky.com.

Per-session data collected:

• Account identifier and associated profile data passed from the host system
• Video play rate, pause events, seek actions, and completion percentage
• Chapter-level engagement (which personalised segments were watched)
• Device type, browser, screen resolution, and network quality indicators
• Time of viewing and session duration
• Call-to-action interactions within the video (clicks on in-video CTAs)

Consent & Compliance

SundaySky scripts are classified under functional and marketing categories. Transactional or account management videos (billing summaries, onboarding instructions) may qualify as functional communications under a legitimate interest basis, as they are delivered in the context of an existing customer relationship. However, retention campaign videos, loyalty promotions, and upsell content are marketing activities that require explicit opt-in consent under GDPR Article 6(1)(a). Under ePrivacy, the session and viewer identification cookies require consent when deployed for marketing purposes. Under CCPA/CPRA, the processing of account data to generate personalised video content constitutes personal information processing that must be disclosed. The sensitive nature of the account data used (financial, usage, or health data depending on sector) may trigger additional obligations under GDPR's special categories provisions.

Should You Block This Without Consent?

Conditional. If SundaySky delivers transactional or account management videos as part of a contracted service, it may qualify as functional and load without marketing consent. If used for promotional retention campaigns or upsell videos, block until the user consents to marketing.
