Config Builder

Use the visual Config Builder to customize your consent banner's appearance, content, compliance rules, integrations, and languages.

The Config Builder is where you design and customize your entire consent experience. Every change you make is reflected instantly in a live preview, so you always see exactly what your visitors will see. Changes save automatically as drafts, and nothing goes live on your site until you explicitly publish.

You'll find three main tabs in the Config Builder sidebar: Appearance, Content, and Compliance. Integrations and Languages live within the Compliance tab.

Appearance

The Appearance tab controls the visual design of your consent banner and preferences panel. You can customize colors, fonts, banner layout, button styles, corner radius, shadows, and the position of the re-entry button that lets visitors change their preferences later.

A set of banner layouts are available out of the box. You can also choose how the preferences panel looks when a visitor wants to review individual consent categories. On the Pro plan and above, you can write custom CSS and custom JavaScript for pixel-perfect control over banner appearance and behavior. For fine-grained control over individual elements like toggle colors and focus rings, see the theming override tokens.

Content

The Content tab is where you edit the text your visitors read: the banner headline, body copy, button labels, and the preferences panel copy. ConsentStack adapts text based on the consent model shown to each visitor, so you can write different copy for opt-in visitors (who need to actively accept) versus notice visitors (who just need to be informed).

Edit any text field in the inspector panel on the right, and watch the live preview update instantly on the left. You can also link to your privacy policy and cookie policy documents directly from the banner.

Compliance

The Compliance tab is the control center for your consent rules. Here you manage your consent categories (like Analytics, Marketing, and Functional), add the regulations that apply to your site (GDPR, CCPA, and 195+ others), and configure the consent rules that determine what each regulation requires for each category.

For example, you might set Analytics cookies to require opt-in consent for GDPR visitors, but only require notice for CCPA/CPRA visitors. The rules you set here drive everything: which banner your visitors see, what scripts are blocked, and what signals are sent to your ad platforms.

Integrations

Platform integrations let you automatically send consent signals to Google Consent Mode, Meta, TikTok, and other advertising and analytics platforms. When a visitor grants or denies consent, ConsentStack forwards that decision to each enabled platform so your tags and pixels respect the visitor's choices without any extra code.

Enable the integrations you need, and ConsentStack handles the signal format for each platform. Integrations are available on the Pro plan and above.

Languages

ConsentStack supports multi-language consent banners in 8 languages. Enable the languages your visitors speak, and ConsentStack automatically translates your banner text when you publish, no manual translation work required. If you've customized any text in the Content tab, those customizations are translated too.

Customizing translations per language

Automatic translation is a starting point, not a limit. To fine-tune the wording for a specific language, open the Content tab and pick the language from the dropdown in the preview toolbar. The panel switches to that language: every field shows the text your visitors currently see, and any change you make applies to that language only.

Fields you customize this way are protected. Automatic translation never overwrites them, on this publish or any future one. Protection is per field: if you rewrite the Italian description but leave the Italian title alone, the title keeps updating automatically when your default text changes, while your description stays exactly as you wrote it.

A dot next to a language in the dropdown means that language has customized fields. Consent model tabs work per language too, so you can give Italian visitors different opt-in and opt-out wording without touching any other language. To discard a customization, use the reset control on the field and the automatic translation returns instantly.

Category names and descriptions can also be customized per language. Select a category on the Compliance tab and pick a language from the dropdown at the top of the category panel.

Multi-language support is available on the Pro plan and above. Language settings live within the Compliance tab.

Draft & Publish Workflow

Every change you make in the Config Builder saves automatically as a draft. Drafts are private to your team. Your visitors never see them. When a tab has unpublished changes, a "Draft" indicator appears next to it in the sidebar so you always know what's pending.

When you're happy with your changes, hit Publish to push the new config live. The published version is what your visitors see. You can also discard a draft at any time to revert back to the currently published version. This workflow lets you experiment freely without worrying about breaking your live consent experience.
